Positively Different Short Film Festival travels to Zagreb

Invited by the Subversive Festival (https://subversivefestival.com/) and the KinoKlub Zagreb (https://www.kkz.hr/), the team of PDSFF traveled to the Capital of Croatia, in the first outing from our base in Athens for 2025.

We participated in the panel “Film Festivals in the Age of Genocide” in Subversive Festival in the afternoon of Friday May 23rd, invited and coordinated by the wonderful Karla Crnčević (Kino Unseen), jury member of PDSFF25. In the panel, we had the opportunity to discuss with cinema workers with similar values and common struggles: with Marta Baradić (kino Katarina, Pula), Bilge E. (On Strike: Screenings & Talks Striking Berlinale, Berlin), Danilo Mladenović & Nikola Uzelac (Blokadni FEST, Belgrade), we considered the possibilities of engaged film production, curatorial and representational policies that oppose the appropriation of combat images, and of creating real places of resistance and freedom that reach for material and concrete tools of solidarity.

Additionally, we held a screening of PDSFF25’s Awarded Films, organised by Jasna Safić, director and previous participant of PDSFF, who is also a member of Inter Alia’s membership programme. The screening was held in KinoKlub Zagreb, a non-profit amateur film club, founded in 1928 in Zagreb, Croatia. The audience, passionate and touched by the screening, engaged with us in a discussion that kept going into the night.

We left Zagreb full of happy moments, meaningful discussions, having met inspiring people, and with a promise to come back for more.
