14 November 2025, 5th Gymnasium of Galatsi
In the lead-up to the anniversary of the Athens Polytechnic Uprising (17 November), the PDSFF team visited the 5th Gymnasium of Galatsi, hosting a curated film screening that encouraged students to reflect on themes of revolution, resistance, and collective action.
We selected four short films from past editions of the festival, which explore individual and collective histories of popular uprising from struggles and protests during the Chilean dictatorship, to everyday acts of revolt within the Kurdish community in Turkey, to the horrors of the Liberian civil war.
Things Unheard Of, dir. Ramazan Kilic (Turkey, 15′)
A little Kurdish girl tries to put a smile back on her grandmother’s face after the disappearance of her television, her only window into the world.
Everyone Eats Bread, dir. Constanza Gaymer Feito (Chile, 9’)
After opening a chest of memories, a girl narrates the story of the Chilean dictatorship and the murder of Nadia Fuentes Concha through the figure of bread.
Weree, dir. Tal Amiran (United Kingdom, 15’)
Having fled the Liberian civil war, renowned self-taught artist Johnson Weree is seeking asylum in the Netherlands where he lives undocumented and without a fixed address. Haunted by the horrors of his past, he draws bright-coloured otherworldly portraits, whilst longing for a brighter future.
Matapacos, dir. Karla Riebartsch, Lion Durst (Germany, 7′)
Based on the famous Chilean “Riot Dog” Negro Matapacos.
A stray dog gets to know María, a young protester. Together they radicalize, but one day they both go a step too far.
The films were screened in front of an audience of approximately 70 second grade students, who were afterwards given the opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings about their films, explore similarities to the 17th of November events and annual protests and reflect on what they would want to protest about.
